Hi, firstly, can we apologise for our lack of posts recently. It's coming up to our exams and so there have been a lot of mock exams, revision, and procrastination taking place. But yet, we took some time out to see one of Alison's recommended bands- Stornoway.
The band was originally introduced to me by my uncle, who likes to buy me anything but pop music for birthdays and Christmases, and on one of my visits to our closest record store, I came across a flyer and we decided to have a go.
Considering it was a Wednesday, taking the trip after school, not knowing when it would finish and being told by our parents we would be at school tomorrow 'whether we liked it or not', it probably wasn't our greatest idea yet. However, I would say that everyone at the event had a good time, and I would recommend their music to anyone looking for a cheer up song- as it never fails to do this for me (Alison).
So, to start the night, we thought we were going to be late because Alison stupidly left her money at home and we still had to get dinner from the shop on the walk home, before we got changed and caught the bus, but luckily we met her Mum on the walk back and picked up some cash for her. After having thinking we'd just made it out the door in time, Alison and I in almost identical summery outfits and Maddie in almost all in black, our bus was late...
A whole ten minutes, and we were panicking a lot- Alison's Mum had her brothers at swimming lessons and Dad was still at work, so, with rural village bus times, we either had to catch this bus or not go at all - however, eventually it came and we were on our way. We arrived in the other village and went to the place early but walked off as doors didn't open for about another 20 minutes. One thing I think we've now learnt about small, coffee shop gigs, is to arrive before 'doors open' if you want to be stood near the front. We ended up sat at the back on chairs, but the music is still as good from there and it was a really enjoyable night. I like to think I've introduced Sabrina and Maddie (and maybe you too) to some new music that they'll actually like - and seeing as Sabrina bought their CD and got it signed (I bought the vinyl), I'm hopeful.
Overall, I think we would both jump at the opportunity to go to a coffee shop gig again (even if the midweek one left me yawning for the rest of the next day) and would highly recommend you do the same if you are given the chance.
Since then - Alison has also had the last minute opportunity to go to a small Theory of a Deadman gig with our friend Caitlin, and again, it was really good. Even if she did end up at school the next day interviewing someone and then driving up to Scotland.
See you soon with another blog post,
